Syllabus For The Traditional Tang Soo Do Association
1st
Gup to 1st Dan (Midnight Blue Belt)
Basic
requirements
- Current membership to
the TTSDA
- Approval of the instructor
to grade
- Regular class attendance
of at least 12 months since the last meeting
- Minimum age 11 years
General
Knowledge
- General rules of class
attendance
- Basic Tang Soo Do etiquette
- Basic Tang Soo Do terminology
- Correct Tang Soo Do attitudes
- Additional knowledge
of Tang Soo Do terminology
- Be able to count to ten
in Korean
- The five basic principles
of Tang Soo Do
- Understanding the principles
behind balance, speed, power and focus
- Conversant in Tang Soo
Do terminology
- Be able to assist Instructors
in teaching and class responsibilities
- The capabilities of assisting
in the training of lower grades with the minimum of supervision by the class
Instructor.
- The ability to assist
in the organisation of TTDSA events.
- Understand the history
and philosophy of Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan.
- Sit a formal written
examination.
Demonstration
of Ability
Understand and apply the Eight Key
Concepts to all techniques.
Fitness
- Sustain 20 minutes of
aerobic exercise
- 3 x 30 press-ups
- 3 x 30 sit-ups
- 3 x 50 half squats
Hand/Leg techniques
(Soo/Jok Gi)
- Be able to demonstrate
any technique requested either singularly, combination or jumping.
Forms (Hyungs)
- Bassai
- Naihanji Cho Dan
- Chil Sung Il Ro
- Chil Sung Sam Ro
- Bong Hyung Il Bu
- In addition, any of the
lower forms may be requested
- Moo Pahl Dang Khun (Eighth
Martial Way)
- Be able to demonstrate
the set of eight Ki Gong breathing exercises.
Sparring (Dae Ryun)
- One step sparring (Il
Soo Sik Dae Ryun) sequence 1 to 18 (Il Bon to Ship Pahl Bon)
- Free sparring (Ja Yu
Dae Ryun)
- One to one (minimum 2
fights)
- Two to one
Self Defence (Ho
Sin Sool)
- Complete review of self
defence techniques.
Breaking (Kyok Pa)
- Backfist strike (Kap
Kwon Kong Kyuk) to a house brick or equivalent deemed suitable by Chief Examiner.
- Women must demonstrate
a jumping kick of choice against a ¾ inch breaker board.
- Children under 18 years
of age to perform a jumping side kick (E Dan Yup Cha Gi) over five people
to a ¾ inch breaker
board.
